The German LAUDA TD 3 surface tension meter automatically measures surface tension, interfacial tension, and the density of related liquid samples. Equipped with a Peltier temperature control unit, it accurately measures surface tension and interfacial tension at a constant temperature.

Principle: Surface tension and interfacial tension are commonly referred to as "static" and "quasi-static" measurements. When a sample is in a stable external environment—i.e., no change, no change, or very slow change—it is in, or very close to, thermodynamic equilibrium. The surface tension and other relevant data of the liquid are measured using the Williams plate and Donaud ring methods, allowing the surface tension and interfacial tension of the sample to be calculated. These methods are widely used and have been standardized in ATM D971 and DIN 53914. The Donaud ring method offers advantages in fully automated measurement and quality control processes.
